Default New to the game...

Hello all, I'm new to Guild Wars.. actually I haven't gotten it yet, but I've played the trial and liked what I saw. I understand the game is a bit old, and that it's not as active as it used to be. I was wondering if there are any semi-active guilds still around, or even just anyone willing to take me in and be social from time to time.

I'm not looking to be "rushed" through the game (in fact, I'd prefer not to, since I want to enjoy the story and explore), but it would be nice to have people to talk to and maybe ask some newbie questions once in a while.

Thanks!

I would be happy to give you some general advice...

That being said.., I do not wish to create a new character as all my slots are filled and maxed.

Best thing for you to do is get 1 friend to play from the beginning with. Start from pre searig Prophecies, and learn the basics as you go along. People have always said it's the best way to learn, this is how I learned, and I agree with them.
the more important things people learn in this game come after they have turned lvl 20 and ascended, and unlocked ALL 2nd professions, and beat all campaigns. After that you start learning corner pullng, effective aggro, quarter stepping.. ect...
I also suggest that you make a ranger first...not because they are the best.. but because they teach important concepts in the game. Such as line of Sight targeting, pulling, avoiding aggro. Not to mention the very long list of skills they have that are completely useless. Learning why skills are good or bad, is Prob the most important thing you could ever learn.

Hi..
I started new last year. Joined the forum before I began, and read around a bit. Take your time, and enjoy the gentle beginnings of Prophecies. I am still learning myself, but I may be able to handle general questions if you have them. Sure other more experienced will be glad to help too.

Guilds are always adverting for players, and while some are hardcore, a good few are Newbie friendly, you need not be alone online here; Friend Claudia de Anar when you jump from PreSearing and I'll intro U to my GL and there's a couple more I could point you in the direction of as well.

Oh and Check out the Guilds Averting Forum here at GW Guru, another good source of leads. Play is more focused on Hero's then PUGs anymore; but you'll find people to run with and help out, out there; and here too - in the two months I've been playing this Forum has been Great! Due Props - these folks rule. really. : )

BTW I play a R/Elm, and have great fun with the toon; but I will admit my skill bar is more Elm/R,
Still having that Long Bow helps; anyhow I agree Rangers are a Newbie friendly class.

I'm just getting into the game again after being away with warcraft for a few years.
I have a necroist but i put that on hold as i wanted to start from the beginning again.
Not decided 100% on a character but been messing with a ele/monk.
I'm from the uk and don't play every single day but if you play similar times to me(between 5-10 gmt) i'd be happy to add you to friends and help you out with quests etc.
I'm a bit of a noob myself and could probably do with a noob friendly guild to help me aswell.

If you want to find a guild, you'd be best off posting in http://www.guildwarsguru.com/forum/l...uild-f266.html, rather than asking a question.

Thanks for all the help, guys. Also, I apologize if my post was originally in the wrong forum - was just asking some general starting-up questions.

Blackbird, I'll be sure to send you a message as soon as I get in game, probably tomorrow night.

Thanks everyone.

I think new accounts have some limitations in the first 24 hours (a measure to fight bots). Not 100% sure about this, but maybe whispering is one of them (i know trading is)...

I work rotating shifts, so I'm likely to be on anytime if your interested adding me to your list, actually this game is great for shift workers IMHO; gives us something engrossing to do when we're off but rolling over to the late watch.

Miraa; I'm very often Marked as away; but that's more to indicate I'm on a mission than truely afk; gimme a moment to find a 'safe' place to park and I'll probably be right back to yea. Cya in game BB.

Okay, I'm finished with the pre-Searing area and I'm exploring the Old Ascalon stuff. I already have a ton of questions.

Henchmen.. Should I take them with me? Should I have a full party of henchmen or should I play without them? Fighting seemed really easy with a full party but it seemed like I got less exp and loot with them.

Also, I have Ascalonian Keys, what are these for?

I noticed when I was crafting there were 2 sets of gear I could make, "Fur Lined" and "Leather", they seemed to have the same stats, what's the difference?

Are there any active guilds willing to take on a newcomer? I got invited to a guild but there is hardly anyone ever online and I have a lot of questions n.n.

Unless the other slots are taken by human players, you should always take henchmen(or heroes when you get them).

they keys are used to open chests you find in the ascalon explorable areas/mission areas.

Only thing different between two pieces of the same armor piece is their apperance.

Okay, thanks for clearing that up Drakar. I'm just going to use this thread to ask all of my idiotic stupid newbie questions >.>

Alright. Here's another one. I have a Nevermore Flatbow that I got from the /bonus command, that came with my copy of the game (Guild Wars Complete Collection). On the bow it says "(Requires 9 Marksmanship)" .. but I can equip it anyway even though I don't have 9 Marksmanship... I'm confused.

Short Anwser no.

Never Equip an Item you don???t have the Attributes for, you'll seriously nerf yourself. Just put your bonus materials into cold storage for now. Right now your best source of weapons will be farming; just keep the drops that fit your toon, sell off the rest. Unless say your planning a 2nd Toon and know what you want for that Character.

Nothing in Old Ascalon is really all that sweet, you'll reequip pretty soon after you reach Yaks Bend (YB) but for now dont push getting there; When you've beaten Aliesha's Ashes, your probably ready for YB and should then do the Academy Mission; but that???s a little ways down your road. For now do the Quests, the occasional mission, and get a grip on the interface and the Milieu.

BTW, none of your questions are dumb, none of us was born with this stuff tattooed to our DNA. Really. Blessings, BB.

if this is the first time you've played, seriously get to know the wiki. you can access it by typing /wiki in game or at wiki.guildwars.com. the wiki gives complete run downs on gear, walkthroughs on quests and missions and skill set advice.

if there isn't ever anyone online to answer your questions in game, rather than posting and waiting to see if anyone answers, the wiki will have exactly what you need 99% of the time, available immediately when you need it. even after completing all the campaigns, I still keep the wiki window open every time I play.
